Toronto International Airport Chooses Westcode Inc

Westcode Inc were pleased to unveil the latest addition to their unique LED vehicle activated road traffic calming sign range with a pilot installation of two solar powered airfield crossing VATCS (Vehicle Activated Traffic Control Signs) at Toronto International airport.

The signs were custom-developed in collaboration with Greater Toronto Airports Authority to improve airfield road traffic driver speed compliance and situational awareness on the approach to terminal airline taxiway crossings.

The signs utilise 3 radars – one internal radar to detect approaching airfield road traffic and two external radars to detect the presence of taxiing aircraft. When activated, the signs provide targeted drivers with a Slow Down warning re-enforcing the max 40km/h posted speed limit that is in effect along with the hazard warning of an aircraft crossing.

The signs are to be evaluated over the remainder of 2023, with the potential to be deployed at 10 other crossings on the airfield and are being used in conjunction with 7 portable speed feedback signs that Westcode Inc supplied to the GTAA in 2022.

Our range of VATCS are available in a range of Posted Speed, Hazard Warning and Advance Traffic models and are widely deployed across both Canada and USA, with installations across 6 provinces and 25 States.
